Make Your Way To The Corner Office

Guest post by Suzanne Bates, author of  Discover Your  Brand: Secrets to Embracing and Maximizing Your Unique Value as a Leader.

You don’’t have to be a business mogul to build a powerful brand and become an influential leader in your company and industry.

The perception about who you are as a leader and as a person is your most important asset in business. You need to embrace the values that define you and build your reputation around those values, thereby building a powerful brand for yourself.

Suzanne Bates, CEO of Bates Communications, Inc., highlights the key points of her book Discover Your  Brand: Secrets to Embracing and Maximizing Your Unique Value as a Leader in her article posted on TheGlassHammer.com, an online community of women executives. Here, she applies the valuable rules from her book to demonstrate how women can assert their unique brand on a male dominated corporate board room.“Women in general are a unique brand; they’re inclusive, communal, consensus-building, multi-tasking workers who focus on getting the job done by checking their egos at the door. We are the true definition of a “transformational leader,” and should be breaking through the glass ceiling at an alarming rate – but we’re not.

It’s communicating those advantages to the rest of the world where we often fall short.”

Suzanne Bates goes on to outline the five key rules to build a unique brand that will serve as stepping stones to success.

“… If you follow these [five] rules, you’ll make a name for yourself inside your company, and to your external audiences, too. News travels fast in business circles. Don’t get frustrated about where you are, and focus on where you’re going. Identifying your own brand – what makes you the unique leader you are – is critical. Then, you just have to let the rest of the world know.”
